Is there a Military Award you feel you deserve?
If you believe that you should have been authorized the Purple Heart, Bronze Star or some other military award that you were never authorized, and does not appear on your Report of Separation, there is only one agency you can request authorization from. That agency is your former service branch Award's Department.
If you received an award but feel that you were entitled to a higher award, you can also appeal to your Awards Branch for upgrade consideration.
To apply for authorization of an award you were never approved for (but not necessarily disapproved for) or an upgrade you need to complete Form DD-149 and provide the necessary information and documentation to convince your Award's Department that you are entitled to authorization. You can obtain Form DD-149 from any VA facility in person or The War Library by email (or download from this website:
