TOPIC: Today, 27 Feb 2019, the Department of Veterans Affairs has ruled that recipients of the Purple Heart will now be granted higher priority disability benefits than all of other veterans. Some veterans now worry that the VA may soon create a 'Priority' schedule that will list other types of awards that will assign veterans priority levels to benefits and even care. Other vets worry that by VA's decision to place Purple Heart recipients above all other veterans will both encourage military personnel in war to voluntarily subject themselves to enemy-caused injury in order to increase their VA benefits thoughout their lives, or create a 'Purple Heart' falsification culture in war zones that allow personnel to obtain a Purple Heart by means other than being wounded. And some vets now worry that veterans who have the Purple Heart will receive faster attention from the VA in waiting rooms for treatment not related to their wartime wounding. Worst yet, some non-white vets fear the VA may return to the past era when race and skin color determined who got faster service from the VA.
