Should the Medal of Honor be given to the Blassie family?

Topic: The Medal of Honor is displayed on the Tomb of the Unknowns. America's highest honor for heroism, valor and courage is displayed on the Tomb not in recogonition of any one soldier, sailor, airperson or Marine interned there, but in recognition for their Unknown service. As a former unknown, (later identified by medical research at the request of the Blassie family), Michael Blassie's status was officially redesignated as Known. Blassie's remains, at the request of the Blassie family, were removed from the Tomb of the Unknowns for re-burial in a family-designated cemetery.

Recently, the Blassie family has petitioned to have a copy the Medal of Honor that is displayed on the Tomb of the Unknowns to be displayed on Michael Blassie's gravestone. Blassie was not awarded the Medal of Honor for any individual act(s).

Do you think the criteria for awarding the Medal of Honor should be changed to permit more Americans to receive it?

Yes No

Do you think every American who lost his or her life as a result of hostile enemy activity should be awarded the Medal of Honor?

Yes No

Do you think the Congress should develop a new medal that would be awarded to every American who lost his or her life as a result of hostile enemy activity?

Yes No
