TOPIC: During World War II American and British forces totally eliminated Axis (German, Italian and Vichy French) opposition in the Middle Eastern theater of operations in less than one year. The War in Iraq, a far smaller theater with no organized military opposition, has now lasted longer than all of the World War II battles in both the Eastern and European theaters combined. President George W. Bush and Senator John McCain say the war in Iraq is progessing favorably. General's McCaffrey and Abizaid say the war is not progressing. In December, 2006 a majority of American troops responding to an Army Times survey stated they felt the war was going badly. Senator Lieberman says General Petraeus is making progess with the "Surge", but American troops in Iraq Iraq have nicknamed him "General Betrayed-us" because they believe he supported the "Surge" in order to get his fourth star. These troops say that General "Betrayed-us" is prolonging the war unnecessarily and costing more useless deaths. Many Americans believe the war in Iraq is going the way of the war in Vietnam... and that Americans will eventually and inevitably have to pull out without achieving any success or victory.
