Company A44 was changed to 269th Sig Co after the friendly fire attack on 17/18 Feb 1970. The name change, along with the transfer-out of over 70% of its personnel, succeeded in convincing media and Congressional inquiries originating from concerned family members in the U.S. that Co A44 had been "completely disbanded" and no longer existed.
